How to Prepare for Home Photography

We know how important a good set of photos is for getting homes SOLD, so I’ve compiled a list of the best tips & guidelines to follow while preparing your home for the photoshoot. These tips will not only make the process run smoothly but ensure that I, the photographer, can provide you my best service.

  1. De-clutter Surfaces

De-clutter your home as much as possible. Put away toys, clothing, dishes, towels, shoes and as many other easily movable personal items as possible. We want potential buyers to be able to envision their own items in the home. (You might be surprised at how good a minimalist home looks!)

  2. Depersonalize

Try to depersonalize your home to a certain degree. Photos of young children and any potentially offensive art (believe me, I’ve seen it all!) should be put away.

  3. Tidy Up Linens

The centerpiece of any bedroom is, in fact, the bed! Making your bed and fluffing your pillows is extremely important for a great bedroom photo.

  4. Kitchen & Bath

Clear the counters of excessive utility or personal items (i.e. toothbrushes, makeup, alcohol/food, fridge magnets). And only leave out towels that are nicely folded or decorative.

  5. Pet Items

Try to minimize the appearance of pet items, and pets themselves. As much as I’d love to photograph your adorable fur-babies, your home photoshoot is not the time. Place pet dishes and toys, etc. away or in an area that won’t be photographed.

  6. Be Creative!

The photoshoot will typically last 30-60 minutes (depending on home size), so where you choose to put your personal items does not have to be long-term. temporarily fill up extra cabinets, closets, drawers, baskets, etc. with as much as you can.
